Yang Style Taijiquan Curriculum 

 

You will be learning Authentic Yang Taijiquan. Whether you want to learn the health aspects or the martial arts aspect of Taijiquan, I make sure that you will learn the basics well. Infact during the course you will be learning the following:-

 

永年太极养生功13式 The 13 Warm Up exercises (in Chinese the form's name translates to longevity and health form). This includes loosening of joints, stretching and breathing exercises. The form also has the benefits of coordination and balance.

 

康宁九势 Kang Ning Health Form - During Covid, Master Fu Qing Quan was asked by the Hebei Provincial Government to create a health form that can help the people practice and stay healthy at home. The teaching was organized on national tv and Master Fu had online classes for many months. The form is based on taijiquan movements but he had to take into consideration the fact - all people are quarantined at home so training space is small; the average person had no idea about training so must be easy to follow; must include the taijiquan principles . Today, the form is part of our daily training and is a very popular set practiced by many in China. ​

 

基本功 Jiben Gong - Translates to basic training - we will cover basic stances, taijiquan principles etc. ​

​内家7势 - Yang Style (Internal) 7 form - This form was composed by Grandmaster Fu Sheng Yuan in Hainan Island, China during a seminar for a local business association and got very popular within the community and later around China. Its popularity is due to the duration of this form is short making it ideal for the business community's hectic lifestyle.  It includes 7 popular moves that are taken from the long form and internal breathing exercises. 

杨式循环8式 8 Cycle Form - This short form is a very old Taijiquan Form - It is made up of the first eight movements of the traditional form - it is called cycle as it can be continuously repeated. It used to be practiced between weapons training to cool down.  

From the 8 Cycle Form we  proceed to the 28 Form - this is a condensed version of the 85 form.  This was arranged by Grandmaster Fu Sheng Yuan and his son Fu Qingquan on the request of many students to have a shorter version. The 85 long form takes 18 to 22 minutes while the 28 form takes a bit more than 6 minutes to perform so it is more accepted by the general public. 

The 85 Form - is the original form of Yang Cheng Fu passed down to Fu Zhong Wen. Fu Zhong Wen kept the form as taught by his master. The 85 form is practiced to obtain gong fu (internal skill) and it is said that was practiced minimum 10 times at one go daily by the disciples. 

There are other forms for competition such as the 13 and 18 forms with shorter timings so as to be in accordance to the time limits of wushu competitions. After the hand forms our syllabus include weapons (Dao and Jian) and push hands.
